Core Faculty
Institute Director Anne Green Gilbert founded Creative Dance Center and Kaleidoscope Dance Company in 1981. Internationally recognized as one of the leaders in dance education, Anne has a Master’s Degree in Teaching and has taught dance at all levels in universities, public schools, and private studios for the past 35 years. Anne is the recipient of numerous teaching awards including the National Dance Association’s 2005 Scholar/Artist award. She is the author of Creative Dance For All Ages, Brain-Compatible Dance Education, Teaching the Three Rs Through Movement, BrainDance (DVD), and Teaching Creative Dance (DVD). Anne is in demand throughout the world for her fun, engaging, and transforming workshops. As an educator, author, and choreographer, Anne promotes quality dance experiences for all ages.
Dionne Kamara, a former member of the Urban Bush Women performance company, is currently a resident teaching artist in New York City. Dionne teaches creative dance integrating academic curriculm to children in public schools, enabling them to express their thoughts and ideas through the art of dance. She has taught creative and traditional West African dance in schools, community centers and cultural institutions in the New York metropolitan area for many years and also teaches creative dance to infants through adults in several NYC studios. Dionne has been an SDIT faculty member for the past six years.
Theresa (Terry) Goetz, has been on the faculty of the Creative Dance Center since 2000. She began training intensively with Anne Green Gilbert in 1997 and has also trained closely with Bill Evans at his Teacher Intensives. Terry has taught dance in preschools, served as an Artist-in-Residence and teaching artist in elementary classrooms, and in dance studios throughout the Seattle area since retiring from Pacific Northwest Ballet in 1995. She presents on a variety of topics to groups focusing on the importance of movement in the early years of life. Terry also serves as the Director of Education and Outreach for the Creative Dance Center.
Eric Chappelle, creator of Music For Creative Dance, Violin for Modern and Ballet and BrainDance Music, has worked extensively with dance, on stage, and in the classroom for over 20 years. Currently the Music Director at the Creative Dance Center and on staff at Cornish College of the Arts and Dance Fremont, Eric founded Ravenna Ventures in 1993, a company providing music for the arts and education.
Kaleidoscope Dance Company, Creative Dance Center’s performing company of young people between the ages of 8 & 15, will perform an informal, free concert for SDIT participants and the community Wednesday evening, July 28.
