Faculty



Anne Green Gilbert
started her teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Chicago where she first used movement to teach the academic curriculum. In 1981, Anne founded the Creative Dance Center, a school specializing in dance education for infants through adults and Kaleidoscope, a modern dance company of young people. Anne is the author of Teaching the Three Rs Through Movement (1977), Creative Dance for All Ages (1992), and Brain-Compatible Dance Education (2006). She has produced two DVD's, Teaching Creative Dance (2002) and BrainDance (2003). As a member of the Arts Education Standards project, she helped write the Washington State Dance Standards and Learning Goals. Anne has received a number of awards for her teaching and service to dance education including the prestigious American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Honor Award (1999) and the NDA Dance Scholar/Artist Award (2005). Anne directs the Summer Dance Institute for Teachers, now in it's 14th year at the Creative Dance Center, and is in demand throughout the world for her fun, engaging, and transforming workshops.



Ines Andrade
has been teaching at CDC since Fall 2000. She received her BFA from University of Florida/New World School for the Arts with honors in dance & choreography. She has performed, choreographed and taught young children in Paris, Florida, and the San Juan Islands before moving to Seattle. Ines is currently part of the Seattle Early Dance Company and performs various other dance styles.



Tom Bergersen
(dance musician) works with the University of Washington Dance Department and with PNB. He has worked previously with Bochinche's school program, and with Bill Evans. Currently Tom performs with the Seattle based Latin Jazz group, Sonando.



Eric Chappelle
(Music Director) has been creating music with dance for over 20 years. He works with many local theaters and has composed and produced four exceptional compact disc volumes of Music for Creative Dance.



Sheri Cohen, GCFP
is an award-winning choreographer who has taught adults and children at Cornish College of the Arts, Oberlin College, Evergreen University, Rainier Valley Coop Preschool, Lotus Yoga, and in many grassroots-organized workshops in the US and Europe. Sheri is an inspiring and inclusive teacher; she is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner, a hatha yoga teacher, and a mom.



Sara Coiley
received her BA in Theatre Arts Performance and Education from Central Washington University, graduating with honors for performance/choreography. She has taught art, musical theatre, drama, and dance to students of all ages in university, public schools and studios since 1994. She studied extensively with international movement educator Anne Green Gilbert, joining her faculty at the Creative Dance Center in 2000, where she embraced the philosophy of brain compatible/conceptual education and forged this with her own belief that all children have the right to dance with meaning and joy! She also teaches and choreographs for Village Theatre's Kidstage, and is the founder/artistic director of Little Stars, a mobile preschool dance education program.



Jessica Gleason
is a graduate of UW with a degree in dance. Since graduating she has been performing and teaching throughout the Seattle area. Jessica has twice attended the Creative Dance Center's Summer Dance Institute for Teachers.



Theresa (Terry) Goetz
is Director of Education and Outreach for the Creative Dance Center in Seattle, Washington. Terry has been on the faculty of the Creative Dance Center since 2000 and began training intensively with Anne Green Gilbert in 1997. She teaches Nurturing Baby, Parent/Toddler, and Parent/Child Creative Dance classes and Ballet and Modern Dance for older children and adults. Terry has taught in preschools, elementary classrooms, and studios throughout the Seattle area since retiring from Pacific Northwest Ballet in 1995. Prior to performing with PNB, she was a member of Pittsburgh Ballet Theater from 1986-1988. She presents to PEPS groups and Early Childhood specialists focusing on the importance of movement in the early years of life, as well as training educators in BrainDance and Brain-Compatible Dance Education. She serves on the dance team that is writing Grade Level Expectations for K-12 dance in Washington State public schools. Terry is an active member of the National Dance Education Organization and is the President of the Dance Educators Association of Washington.



Gail Heilbron
has a MFA in Dance/Theater from Case Western Reserve University. She has been a dancer, teacher, and choreographer for 30+ years including artistic director of Co-Motion Dance.



Stacey Hinden
is a movement artist - dancer, choreographer, somatic movement educator/therapist, and certified practitioner of Body-Mind Centering®. She has been involved professionally in the field of movement for over 25 years.

Rex Kinney
grew up in Seattle and was introduced to Hip Hop at the age of 14. He is currently the Hip Hop Director and Choreographer for Shorecrest High School Dance Team where he has led them to four straight District Titles and a State Championship in the 2006 WIAA State Dance/Drill Competition. In addition, he is an instructor through the UW Experimental College and Westlake Dance Center in Seattle. Rex has choreographed for several dance companies and groups all over the Northwest. He has had the pleasure of performing and choreographing for such venues/groups as the Pacific Northwest Ballet's REACH, Seattle Theater Group, Village Theater's Production of The King and I, Experience Music Project, Sonics/Storm and Seahawks Half-Time shows, KUBE 93.3 FM's Summer Jam Concert opening for Cypress Hill, choreographer for music video “Do You Want Me” by Mion Lee Drew and West Coast tours, Children's Hospital Benefit Showcase, UW Conference for former Governor Gary Locke, and has been a guest performer for the Sonics Dance Team. He has been a member of several dance companies including Boogiezone Breed, Cruz Control, INeffect, KINetics, and Phyzikal Graffi-t. Rex has always loved performing but gains the most gratification in seeing his students grow, succeed, and accomplish great things.



Helen Landalf
has been teaching Creative Dance in local preschools since 1987. She is the author of five books for teachers, including Moving the Earth: Teaching Earth Science through Movement and Moving is Relating: Exploring Interpersonal Skills through Movement.



Anna Mansbridge
has been teaching at CDC since Fall 1999. She has also created three pieces on Kaleidoscope Dance Company, and is the Mentorship Coordinator at CDC. Anna has a Bachelor degree in Dance and Education from the UK, and an MFA from Mills College, CA. In addition to her work at CDC, Anna is the Artistic Director of Seattle Early Dance which specializes in reconstructing the court dances of 16th-18th century Europe. Anna is the proud mother of Isabelle.



Leslie Mouton
has been teaching prenatal yoga for six years. She draws on her experience as a mother of three, and her ongoing study and practice of yoga. After completing a university degree in Movement Studies, Leslie devoted herself to the serious study of yoga. She studied with the Iyengar family in Pune, India, and with many fine teachers closer to home. Leslie continues to study Sanskrit and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and participates in the Education for Life program. She feels that yoga is ideal for mothers, because the principles of the science of yoga guide us to embrace each moment in the art of our daily living -- the dance of life.



Carol Schouboe, CMA
is a Certified Movement Analyst and an Advanced Bartenieff Movement Practitioner. She has been an assistant faculty member with the Laban Certification Program and the Integrated Movement Studies Certificate Program. She is a movement educator and has been in private practice as a Movement Therapist for 19 years working with dancers, athletes, martial artists, and people with injuries and developmental concerns. Carol is currently interested in building community through movement.



Rebecca Schroeder
received her BFA in dance at California State University Long Beach. She has performed and taught in New York City, California, and Washington. Currently, she teaches ballet and modern dance throughout the Seattle area. Rebecca holds a certificate from the Creative Dance Center’s Summer Dance Institute for Teachers.



Jennifer Shevitz
a graduate of the Brenneke School of Massage, has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2001. Jennifer completed her certification to teach infant massage in the fall of 2003. Before her massage career, Jennifer was a professional dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet. She completed the Summer Dance Institute for Teachers at the Creative Dance Center in 2004. Jennifer currently works as the massage therapist for Pacific Northwest Ballet. Her specialties and certifications include injury treatment, deep tissue, pregnancy, infant, and hot stone massage. Besides being on the faculty here at the Creative Dance Center, teaching the babies and toddlers, Jen also runs the One Point Holistic Center in South Everett with her husband. She also enjoys teaching parents how to share massage with their babies and why tummy time is so important. Living in Seattle since 1991, Jennifer currently lives in South Everett with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.



Meghan Sissom
graduated from the University of Colorado with a double major in psychology and sociology. She has ten years experience working with children, teenagers, and adults, specializing in the areas of at risk youth and working with people with varying abilities. She brings her experience in developmental movement and dance into her work with her students. She is able to facilitate the flow of a class while also giving attention to student’s individual needs and pace. She has danced all her life engaging in many different forms including jazz, tap, ballet, African, modern, swing, and improvisational dance and continues her journey with dance here in Seattle. Currently, she is attending Antioch University where she is pursuing her Masters degree in Education.
